Road "Fixating" with Orphan Road Crew

Three hand-made road tools: $75. Four truckloads of sand and gravel: $500. Working side by side with happy, playful, hungry, curious children: priceless! Riding in gigantic truck lurching through narrow village paths, Zenan's door flying open, view of puddles through truck floor: "hakuna matata." Last gravel dump near dusk, must finish! One quarter mile of road leveled and repaired, sodas for the crew. Mission accomplished.

    Paulette did a wonderful job Road "Fixating"! She never gave up no matter what problems were thrown at her. For example on her first day she reported to work and met with Zenan and a few orphans to shovel gravel. There was one problem... there was only one shovel. Five people and only one tool. They solved that problem by visiting town and purchasing a few new tools. Only to be faced with another problem: the tools broke leaving them with only two tools among five people. "Hakuna Matata" they continued and finished unscathed. Every day they worked until finally their road looked brand new and smooth. This is just one example of the challenges that Paulette and her team of Road Fixators had to face in order to make a smooth road for the children they cared about. Great Job Paulette!!!

    It was an amazing experience...I am so glad you were able to participate. Keep checking back as I will post some pics of you! Perhaps at the traditional village home wearing Maasai necklace?
